NABCEP provides a means for renewable energy consumers to identify qualified installers and promotes safe, high-quality installation work

NABCEP is dedicated to encouraging the adoption of high-quality installation practices and appropriate professional standards in the renewable energy industry. Our overall goal is to further the spread of renewable energy use by encouraging industry behaviors that protect consumers.

Nationally, those installers that meet the NABCEP certification requirements and who are able to pass the NABCEP certification test are bound by a pledge to act in a manner which promotes the integrity of, and reflects positively on, the industry as a whole.

The NABCEP process has been developed and designed carefully while following professional credentialing guidelines. Standards and eligibility requirements are continually being updated by subject matter experts, with extensive input from stakeholders, and deliberation among installers. NABCEP’s program is a non-discriminatory program implemented with fair procedures and due-process.

• Pre-installation site assessment
• Appropriate system design focusing on long term reliability
• Quality installation standards and procedures
• Knowledge and understanding of applicable OSHA safety practices
• Validation of a high standard of professionalism and customer satisfaction in past installation work
• Continuing educational requirements guaranteeing a continued focus on technology training

From 2001 through the summer of 2003, the NABCEP board members and stakeholders undertook the development of voluntary standards for PV installers -- the result was the NABCEP Task Analysis for PV Installers. It defines the general set of knowledge, skills, and abilities typically required of practitioners who install and maintain PV systems. From this historic document was created the flagship NABCEPTM Solar PV Installer Certification program.
